When should I fly?
The best months of the year
Flights over the Nazca Lines operate every day of the year. There is no truly wrong month to fly, but some parts of the year require more patience and flexibility than others.
During Peru's winter months, especially July and August, early morning fog can settle along the coast and across the desert. For safety, departures wait until visibility improves. That can delay the first flights of the day and affect later reservations too.
Late July and August can also bring rare desert sandstorms, locally associated with the word Paracas, meaning a rain of sand. When they happen, flights may pause until conditions improve.
For the smoothest planning, September through May usually offers the most predictable weather. Even in fog season, the sky normally clears eventually; the important thing is knowing how to plan around possible delays.
The best time of day
In ideal viewing conditions, the best time to fly over the Nazca Lines would be between about 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. The air is usually calmer, and the lower sun can create subtle shadows along the edges of the geoglyphs.
Unfortunately, that early window is generally not possible now because of newer airport regulations and authorization procedures. Regular departures usually begin later, often around 9:15 AM or 9:30 AM, depending on weather, aircraft sequencing and daily airport clearance.
