About Cantalloc
East of the Nazca Lines lies one of the most ingenious achievements of the ancient Nazca people — the Cantalloc Aqueducts. Built centuries before the Inca Empire, these spiral-shaped channels, known as puquios, allowed the Nazca civilization to survive in one of the driest deserts on Earth.
More than 40 aqueducts were constructed here, channeling water from underground springs through the desert basin to irrigate crops like maize, beans, and cotton. Their design remains a mystery: why spirals? Were they symbolic, spiritual, or purely practical? The debate continues, and the aqueducts remain one of the most fascinating legacies of Nazca engineering.
Your Tour Experience
